Dr. Jay C. Johnston was born and raised in Oklahoma City, and is a proud Putnam City Pirate, and Central State (UCO) Broncho.
Born and raised in Oklahoma City, a proud Putnam City Pirate and UCO Broncho , Dr Johnston attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma, and did his Ophthalmology residency at OU as well, finishing in 1971. He began his private practice in downtown Oklahoma City with Dr James Mills shortly thereafter, building their first office on NW 11th between Walker and Hudson, behind what is now the Ambassador Hotel. Dr Jay’s and Dr Mill’s practice grew quickly and soon they were serving people from across the state. Dr. Jay is life member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and numerous other state and national medical societies.
He has provided free Ophthalmology services for patients of Oklahoma City’s Variety Clinic for many decades. After over 50 years of serving Oklahoma City Dr. Jay continues to have a passion for all aspects of comprehensive medical eye care, unique ophthalmic disease and syndromes, cataract surgery, as well as lacrimal and tear duct surgery.
Dr. Jay has been married to Susan for over 55 years and has three children (Dr. Carter, Chris, and Leslie) and five grandchildren. Dr. Jay spends his free time following OU Sooner sports, golfing, following his five grandchildren’s sporting events, and reading the latest nonfiction history best sellers.
